Advancing Qualified Trichologists to WTS Certification Standards

The World Trichology Society Trichology Advancement Program (TAP) is designed for qualified trichologists who completed their original trichology education outside WTS and want to deepen their scientific and clinical knowledge while advancing toward WTS Certification Standards.

TAP recognizes the education and professional experience you have already gained. It provides an advancement pathway without requiring qualified trichologists to begin their education again.

Who May Apply?

TAP may be appropriate for individuals who:

  • Have completed a formal trichology education or certification program

  • Have at least two years of professional experience in hair practice

  • Have experience in trichology, cosmetology, barbering, hair care, scalp care, healthcare, or a related field

  • Are committed to ethical, responsible, and evidence-informed practice

Professional hair-practice experience may be considered even if the applicant has not practiced specifically under the Certified Trichologist designation for two full years.

TAP is not an entry-level program. Individuals without previous formal trichology education should explore the full WTS/WTA Trichology Certification Program.

What Does TAP Include?

  • 160 hours of self-paced online academic study

  • Advanced hair and scalp science

  • Clinical application and case-based learning

  • Required academic assessments

  • Two days of live Virtual Clinical Training

  • CPD-accredited education

  • A pathway toward recognition as a WTS Certified Trichologist

Optional In-Person Clinical Training may be available for an additional fee.

Admissions Process

1. Complimentary Eligibility Review

Applicants submit documentation of their previous trichology education, relevant credentials, and professional experience. Each application is reviewed individually.

2. Entrance Examination

Candidates who meet the preliminary eligibility requirements will be invited to take the TAP Entrance Examination.

  • 180 multiple-choice questions

  • 14 foundational subject areas

  • Examination fee: $329

  • Includes up to two attempts

If a candidate does not pass on the first attempt, a second attempt is included without another examination fee.

3. Admission to TAP

Candidates who pass the Entrance Examination may be formally admitted into TAP. They will then complete the 160-hour online program, required assessments, and Clinical Training.

Upon successfully completing all program and certification requirements, participants earn recognition as aĀ WTS Certified Trichologist.
